Inclined Dance Project began in January 2009 as informal rehearsals between director Kristen Klein and her friend’s and fellow dance colleagues from The Boston Conservatory. Initially started as a way to experiment with movement and various choreographic exploits, these experimental rehearsals eventually took shape and led to the creation of Marrow, which was then submitted to a few dance festivals on a whim. The acceptance of Marrow to various venues called for the need to develop the dancers into an established group, leading Kristen Klein to found Inclined Dance Project. IDP premiered in the summer of 2009 with Marrow at the Silk City Arts Festival in New Jersey.
Since its creation, Inclined Dance Project has performed at various venues and festivals across the US including BAM Fisher, Little Boxes Theater, Philadelphia Fringe Festival, RAW Artists, The Julie Ince Thompson Theater at The Dance Complex, Baruch College, Boston University, NEWSTEPS, The Center for Performance Research, The Actors Fund Arts Center, Triskelion Arts, Dixon Place, The Flea Theater, University Settlement, the Ailey Citigroup Theater, The Secret Theatre, The Tank, Gibney Dance Center, Greenspace, Peridance Capezio Center, The Gowanus Arts Building, The Muse Brooklyn, DUMBO Dance Festivals, Vox Nous’ 60×60 Dance at Brookfield Place, the 2010-2014 CoolNY Dance Festivals, WAXWorks, and the International Festival of Arts and Ideas among others. The company has traveled and performed in Massachusetts, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and California, and in collaborating with former company member Chie Mukai IDP has premiered new work in Osaka, Japan. Now in it’s 12th year, IDP continues to grow and develop as an artistic force in the New York City dance scene.
